Summer is here! That means plenty of great weather and lots of fun to be had.
That’s why it’s very important to understand sun screen. The Daily News recently offered a series of sunscreen tips and tricks that will help.
The first step is choosing the right sunscreen. This all starts with understanding the SPF rating.
SPF stands for sun protection factor. It’s essentially the strength of your sunscreen. You should choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, even if you don’t sunburn easily.
Remember, sunscreen protects you from damage that is more subtle than simple burning, so you want to get as much protection as you possibly can. SPF 30 sunscreens provide protection from 97% of the sun’s harmful rays.
You also need a water-resistant sunscreen, especially if you plan to hit the beach. And if you’re going to be outside for long periods of time, remember to apply your sunscreen every two hours.
It’s also a good idea to supplement sunscreen with hats and sunglasses. Stay in the shade as much as possible!
The article also covered the difference between creams and sprays. In general, creams are better as they can be applied safely to the face, including the areas around the mouth.
You can have fun in the sun! But you have to be smart about it if you want to preserve your skin’s youthful appearance.
